Violent threats against election workers have reached an “alarming” level in the US, according to a recent report from the Brennan Center for Justice at New York University School of Law and the Bipartisan Policy Center.
One in three election workers feels unsafe because of their job, and one in six has faced threats as they help run the nation’s elections, the report found.
Seventy-eight per cent of the report’s respondents said mis- and disinformation on social media made their jobs more difficult, while 54 per cent said it made their jobs more dangerous.
GOP lawmakers across the US have turned the administrative task of running the nation’s elections into a hostile political minefield, while Donald Trump continues to wage an assault on the electoral process with a baseless narrative that the 2020 election was “stolen” from him, and falsely asserting that the process was a “hoax” and “corrupt” before a single ballot was cast.

J&J Vaccine Significantly Less Effective Against CCP Virus Variants, Study Suggests
The Johnson & Johnson vaccine against COVID-19 is significantly less effective against variants compared to the two other COVID-19 vaccines approved for use in the United States, a pre-print study by scientists from the New York University School of Medicine suggests.
According to the paper’s summary, the antibodies elicited by the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines “showed modest neutralization resistance against Beta, Delta, Delta plus and Lambda variants.” In contrast, the antibodies generated in response to the Johnson & Johnson vaccine had “significantly decreased neutralization.”
“The data underscore the importance of surveillance for breakthrough infections that result in severe COVID-19 and suggest the benefit of a second immunization following [the Johnson & Johnson vaccine] to increase protection against the variants,” the study states.

July 21, 2021 Residents of Ojama village register for National IDs
In a new report, “Chased Away and Left to Die,” human rights organizations found that Uganda’s national digital ID system, which is key to how individuals access their social rights, leads to mass exclusion.
The report, a collective effort of human rights organizations, is the outcome of seven months of in depth interviews with a multitude of victims, health workers, welfare workers, government officials and other experts on the national ID, referred to by Ugandans as Ndaga Muntu.
The report argues that the Ugandan government has sacrificed the potential of digital ID for social inclusion and the realization of human rights at the altar of national security.
