Beverly Ann Cahill
Longtime Shelter Island resident Beverly Ann Cahill passed away suddenly at the Hampton Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Southampton on Jan. 7 at the age of 88.
A full-time Islander for 55 years, known to her many Island friends as Bev, she was born in Manhattan on Nov. 8, 1932, coinciding with the first of Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s presidential wins.
Her mother Mildred had been divorced and married Shelter Island native William B. Price, who adopted Beverly and her younger sister Mickey as children. After living in New York City for a period of time, the family settled in New Jersey, first Elizabeth, and then in Colonia.

The first day he became eligible for a vaccine, the Westchester resident filled out a form on the state website that pulled up a list of possible vaccination sites. But calls to each location proved unsuccessful – they were confused why they were listed, had no doses at the time or didn’t respond. He couldn’t get through to the state’s hotline for advice.

In the months following an acute MI, women are significantly more likely than men to be readmitted for heart failure (HF), even if they did not have HF at the index admission, a new analysis of sex differences in survivors suggests.
Women were older and less likely than men to receive PCI or CABG for acute MI, and while those factors may set them up for HF admission, lead author Srikanth Yandrapalli, MD (Westchester Medical Center and New York Medical College, Valhalla, NY), noted that the findings suggest that the difference in risk emerges early in the weeks after discharge. The implication being that women may be more prone to inconsistent or incomplete follow-up than men during a vulnerable time.
