Telecom Groups Sue NY Over $15 Low-Income Broadband Law April 30, 2021 On Friday, numerous telecommunications associations filed a complaint in the Eastern District of New York against New York Attorney General Letitia A. James over a state law that purportedly seeks to regulate the rates and speeds of interstate communications, from which the plaintiffs argued New York is precluded under federal law. According to the complaint, internet access is generally provided through broadband, which “ ‘transmits data at much higher speeds’ than preexisting technologies, such as dial-up connections provided over local telephone facilities.” Additionally, the plaintiffs noted that broadband is considered “an interstate information service that is subject to a federal regulatory framework, under which a combination of mandatory disclosures, competition, and federal and state enforcement of preexisting laws benefit consumers.” The plaintiffs asserted that the Federal Communications

Federal Government, NYS Reach Settlement With Cement Plant

4:15 The federal government, New York state and a Capital Region cement plant have reached a settlement to resolve alleged violations of federal and state water regulations. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for New York’s Northern District, the Environmental Protection Agency and New York State announced the deal with the LafargeHolcim facility in Ravena Thursday. The consent decree would require the company to pay an $850,000 civil penalty and comply with a state discharge permit. NRA to spend $2 million to counter Biden gun control push

This has to end. It s a national embarrassment, he added.  Biden said that even gun owners support gun control measures – a statement at odds with the NRA’s recent investment.  The president further alarmed the gun group when he named former Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) agent David Chipman turned senior policy adviser to gun-violence prevention group Giffords, to head the ATF.  The NRA is all-in on this fight, NRA spokeswoman Amy Hunter told Fox News. We will fight Chipman’s nomination and the bad bills that now are in the Senate. At least 12 states will be targets for the NRA campaign, but the group told Fox News that they are prepared to spend more, should they need to.
