STEWART AIRPORT – Allegiant Air starts operating flights between New York Stewart International Airport and Savannah, Georgia effective this Wednesday.
Flights were to begin in 2020 but were delayed because of the pandemic. Service will be non-stop to Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport.
Allegiant was the only airline serving Stewart that continued service all through the pandemic and that deserves special recognition, said Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus.
“Allegiant is our MVP because they never stopped service. A lot of Orange County and Hudson Valley residents continued to use them during the pandemic and I hear nothing but positive reviews from people who fly on them,” he said.

Orange County Airport is hosting the New York Air Show this summer for a second year in a row.
The event was moved last year from New York Stewart International Airport because of crowd limits during the pandemic.
Still, thousands showed up for the show in the sky.
This year s event is the weekend of Aug. 28 and 29.

Stewart Airport doesn t see the type of traffic its New York City counterparts do. With fewer options available, some travelers may choose to fly out of JFK or LaGuardia airports. I have flown out of here multiple times and I m not going to lie, a lot of times, even before COVID hit, it was like a dead zone, Newburgh resident Brittany Robinson said. I think it s underutilized and we ve spent a lot of money in the last few years renovating, changing the place, and (there s) less routes, less airlines in the place, said Newburgh resident Michael Vela.

STEWART AIRPORT – The executive director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey predicts airline growth at New York Stewart International Airport post-COVID.
Rick Cotton acknowledges while airlines have tightened their belts since the pandemic struck, they will be critical in their selection of new markets, and he believes the Hudson Valley will be one of them.
“This is a tougher environment for them, but it means they don’t want to miss a cluster of critical mass of travelers who would be interested in buying tickets in some of these secondary routes,” he said.
