Vehicle that crashed into New Westminster backyard had been stolen: police

  VANCOUVER Police say a vehicle involved in a bizarre crash in New Westminster appears to have been stolen. Officials in the Metro Vancouver city said the car ended up in the backyard of a home near McBride Boulevard and Mott Crescent at around 9 a.m. Sunday. The driver had crossed a lawn and crashed through a row of trees before bringing the vehicle to a stop in the yard, police said. It appears the vehicle struck a trampoline and a fence in the yard during the incident. Firefighters were called to cut the roof off the Toyota sedan so the driver could be removed.

Single-vehicle crash in New Westminster yard sends driver to hospital

  VANCOUVER A driver has been taken to hospital in serious condition after crashing into the yard of a home near the border between New Westminster and Burnaby Sunday morning. B.C. Emergency Health Services told CTV News Vancouver two ambulances were dispatched to the home near the intersection of McBride Boulevard and 10th Avenue around 9:15 a.m. for the single-vehicle crash. Video from the scene shows tire tracks on the lawn and a black Toyota Camry with no roof in the home s backyard. A trampoline can be seen covered in debris, and a wooden fence appears to have been damaged in the crash as well.

Man allegedly chased people with knife in New Westminster; assault charges laid

  NEW WESTMINSTER, B.C. A man has been charged after allegedly chasing two people in New Westminster with a knife late last month, police say. According to the New Westminster Police Department, officers were called at about 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 21. A man and his friend were walking along 8th Street, when another man they didn t know allegedly began chasing them with a knife. Officers arrived on scene and found the man by following the sounds of screaming, the department said. Police say when they found him, the man was carrying a 10-inch knife. They told the man to drop the weapon and he was arrested without incident.
