Since the pandemic made couch-surfing a high risk activity, the quiet crisis has been amplified. Advocates for homeless youth say more young adults, specifically those between 18 and 25, are reaching out for help during the pandemic. Erin Kelly, the program director of Waypoint Homeless Youth and Young Adult Services, said her organization typically sees a decrease in demand for services during the winter – the cold months are when friends are most likely to open their doors to kids in need. This winter, though, demand has not declined.

Today’s results include 206 people who tested positive by PCR test and 173 who tested positive by antigen test. There are now 3,056 current COVID-19 cases diagnosed in New Hampshire. The state has long struggled with a shortage of inpatient and community-based treatment options for people with mental health crises. In recent days, the number of children being held inside emergency rooms waiting to be transferred to a more appropriate facility has grown to 50. New Hampshire Hospital, which has been caring for adults, will immediately turn a ten-bed unit into a wing for children, Lori Shibinette, commissioner for DHHS, announced Thursday.
