Some state weatherization contractors are warning that inaction by state regulators on New Hampshire’s energy efficiency plan could harm their business.
The state s utility providers Eversource, Liberty, Unitil and the New Hampshire Electric Co-op – and other stakeholders proposed an ambitious three year plan that would decrease the energy their customers have to buy.
It would do so by making homes and businesses more energy efficient, with the up-front cost funded by ratepayers.
The plan was delayed after a group of Republicans, business lobbyists and some at the Public Utilities Commission raised concerns. The commission was supposed to rule on the plan by Feb. 23, but has not yet reached a decision.

Planning, perseverance and strategic alliances pay off for the rural community of Bristol, NH, as it overcomes obstacles to bring better broadband and better jobs to residents.
Nicholas Coates, Bristol town administrator

The rural town has some internet options, but they’re largely low-speed services from the area incumbent telco and cable operator that can’t support demanding applications.

Nearly 20,000 people in New Hampshire were still without power due to high winds early Tuesday evening.
Most of the outages are with Eversource in Portsmouth and other parts of the Seacoast. The New Hampshire Electric Co-op also has large outages in the Lakes Region and Eastern White Mountains, including, as of 5:30 p.m., nearly 3,000 in Alton.
The utilities say gusty winds overnight and through the day damaged poles and wires, and brought down trees in some areas.
The winds have begun to die down some, but the damage like here on Middle Street in Portsmouth is substantial. We’re bringing nearly 100 contract crews from MA, NY, and Canada to assist in the restoration, and expect to be substantially complete by 11:59pm tomorrow. pic.twitter.com/IklH4UyStS
