Grief, gratitude, sorrow & pride: remembering Officer Joe Corr, 15 years later

Grief, gratitude, sorrow & pride: remembering Officer Joe Corr, 15 years later Some losses, you move on from; others walk alongside you for the rest of your life. The community suffered the latter, 15 years ago Saturday. Posted: Feb 26, 2021 6:16 PM Posted By: Joleen Ferris  On that night, New Hartford Police Officer Joe Corr, a young husband, father, son, brother, avid hunter, sportsman and fisherman, ran fearlessly into the woods behind Byrne Dairy, in Kirkland, in pursuit of an armed jewelry store robber. In the woods, in the dark, Walter Richardson, Jr. fired one shot. He did die a hero. It s hard because you see so much senseless death. He was shot at once and it just hit him in the wrong spot. We see people get shot three and four times and walk away. And the three men on that wall each got shot one time and they re all dead. Sometimes you wonder why, says Oneida County District Attorney, Scott Mc Namara. I had just become the district attorney and that was the first

Town of New Hartford NY barn fire on Elm Street under investigation

A Friday morning barn fire at 9449 Elm St. in the town of New Hartford is under investigation, according to fire officials. Willowvale firefighters were sent shortly after 6 a.m. to the structure, which reportedly was a storage site for equipment, officials said. The Clayville Fire Department responded with their aerial truck and rescue, and the New Hartford Fire Department responded with an engine. Firefighters conducted an exterior attack of the blaze, while Clayville’s aerial unit began applying water through the exposed roof.  Due to the combination of heavy fire conditions and a number of various pressurized tanks inside the structure, firefighters were unable to make an interior attack, officials said.

First Responder Friday Salutes Barton Paczkowski

First Responder Friday Salutes Barton Paczkowski Each week we salute one of Central New York s First Responders whose job is keeping us safe, rescuing us when we are in peril, or saving our life at the darkest moments. This week we salute a man who has two roles in serving the community, Barton Paczkowski. It s not unusual for First Responders to pull double duty, often serving duties with a fire department and an ambulance service.  But Barton does it in a different way than most. He s  a firefighter and a police officer. Firefighter Paczkowski, serves as a Lieutenant with the Rome Fire Department.  He s been there since 2012.  He s also Officer Paczkowski, patrolling the streets of New Hartford on a part-time basis. Prior to serving with New Hartford, he spent five years with the Kirkland Police Department.

First Responder Friday Salutes Patrolman Jeff Emerson

First Responder Friday Salutes Patrolman Jeff Emerson Every Friday we salute First Responders, the people who run toward danger and put their own well-being on the line to make sure we re safe. This week we salute New Hartford Patrolman, Jeff Emerson. Just as Andy Griffith used to teach Barney Fife, there s more to being an officer than enforcing laws and making arrests. Jeff exemplifies those words with his actions everyday. He s been serving with the New Hartford Police Department for 5 and a half years. Cheryl who nominated Patrolman Emerson calls him one of the most dedicated, hard-working, compassionate police officers she knows. He will stop to help out someone with a broken down car, if they are looking for lost pets or family members. He goes above & beyond every day to keep people safe.
