The COVID-19 vaccine is in the building. We have vaccine in-house, said Dr. West Paul, chief clinical officer at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, during a call with reporters on Thursday. It s in our freezers now.
A shipment of 2,925 doses of the vaccine, made by the Pfizer pharmaceutical company, arrived at the hospital Thursday morning, Paul said. He added that hospital workers could begin receiving vaccinations as soon as today or maybe early tomorrow (Friday) morning.
By tomorrow afternoon, he said, between 50 to 75 hospital employees will have gotten the vaccine, with much higher numbers of employees getting vaccinated each day after that and in the days to follow.

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - Big plans are taking shape in Wilmingtonâs Northside neighborhood to address food security, health and equity in the region.
Three years after community leaders met at the Foxes Boxes to brainstorm possible solutions, the Northside Food Co-op now has a board of directors, bylaws, and is in the process of selling shares to bring a community-funded grocery store to the region.

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - Every year, the Loblolly Garden Club hosting a Christmas tea but, like many other things, due to the pandemic they weren’t able to get together.
Members of the club still wanted to do something so they decided they would deliver goodies to healthcare workers at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
“Someone came up with a really bright idea that we would feed hospital workers at the hospital, so we are taking food over to the hospital. We have to be met outside the door of the Zimmer Center because they won’t let us come in, and we are taking food for 80 workers,” said Marie Ashworth, a member of the garden club.

Six people, all New Hanover County residents, were named to the board, on top of five people previously selected when the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners in October established the nonprofit corporation charged with overseeing the estimated $1.25 billion from the sale of the county-owned New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
The nearly $2 billion sale to Winston-Salem-based Novant Health is expected to close early next year. A new regional local board charged with overseeing the hospital after the sale has selected the new members to the endowment board.
