Huge planning boost for South Kilkenny wind farm

); Castlebanny Wind Farm has been granted ‘strategic infrastructure project’ status by An Bord Pleanála.
This will allow project developers, ART Generation and Coillte, to send their planning application directly to An Bord Pleanála, and bypass the local planning approval phase.
The proposed wind farm would be located in South County Kilkenny, 2.2km South-East of Ballyhale, 4.5km North-East of Mullinavat and 5.8km South-West of Inistioge.
It entails the construction of 21 wind turbines up to a maximum tip height of 185 metres, 3 onsite borrow pits to source stone, one onsite met mast of 100m in height as well as the provision of amenity facilities to allow and encourage public access to the site.

Greencoat Renewables to buy Cavan and Offaly wind farms for €123 million
It has been announced this week that Greencoat Renewables is set to buy two wind farms in counties Cavan and Offaly for €123 million.
Greencoat Renewables, the renewable infrastructure company invested in euro-denominated assets, will acquire Taghart wind farm in Co. Cavan and Cloghan wind farm in Co. Offaly, from Statkraft, Europe’s largest generator of renewable energy.
Construction of the wind farms is scheduled to begin soon, with the acquisition due for completion once each wind farm is fully operational, expected in late 2022.
Statkraft will manage the construction of each wind farm and will continue to provide trading and operational management services for the wind farms once operational.
Listed energy company Greencoat Renewables is buying the Cloghan and Taghart wind farms in counties Offaly and Cavan for a combined price of €123m.
Greencoat is purchasing the wind farms from the Norwegian State-owned company Statkraft under a forward sale agreement, which means Greencoat will pay for the assets at a future date.
Construction of the wind farms is scheduled to begin shortly.
The acquisition due for completion once each wind farm is fully operational, expected in late 2022.
Cloghan, a 37.8 Mega Watt wind farm, is located in county Offaly, while Taghart a 25.2 Mega Watt wind farm is located in county Cavan.
