FIRST GEN Corp. said Wednesday that it will make available around 690 megawatts (MW) of geothermal power for the green energy option program (GEOP).
âPrimarily, our participation will be through our geothermal plants â Bacman Geothermal in Luzon (with) 140 megawatts (MW); Unified Leyte (plants) in Visayas⦠(of around 400 or 450 megawatts); in Mindanao, Mt. Apo Geothermal at 100 megawatts,â First Gen Vice-President for Power Marketing, Trading and Economics Carlos Lorenzo L. Vega said at a webinar hosted by the non-governmental organization Center for Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technology.
â(Our planned capacity for the GEOP is a) total of 690 MW,â he said.

The Department of Energy (DOE) has given the green light to six renewable energy (RE) suppliers, led by Lopez and Aboitiz-run firms, to offer cleaner energy options to consumers.
Those given permits to participate in the DOE’s Green Energy Option Program (GEOP) include the Lopezes’ BacMan Geothermal, Inc. and First Gen Energy Solutions, SN Aboitiz Power-Magat, Inc., SN Aboitiz Power-Res, Inc., Ayala-led AC Energy Philippines, and Sparc-Solar Powered Agri-Rural Communities Corporation.
DOE Renewable Energy Management Bureau (REMB) director Mylene Capongcol said the six companies were the first ones to apply for permits under the program.

TAGUIG CITY, Jan 7 The Department of Energy (DOE), through the Renewable Energy Management Bureau (REMB), conducted last Tuesday (5 January) the Launching and Pre-Submission Conference to kick-off the start of the 3rd Open and Competitive Selection Process (OCSP3) that will further accelerate the development of renewable energy (RE) in the country.
Under the OCSP3, a total of 22 Pre-Determined Areas (PDAs) covering potential geothermal and hydropower resources have been identified and were presented to the various stakeholders during the launching to the various stakeholders. These PDAs comprising of 17 potential hydro projects and five geothermal projects have a total potential capacity of about 150 MW and will be offered to qualified RE Developers deemed qualified based on the criteria set by the DOE. The PDAs have sufficient available technical data to serve as initial reference by those who are interested to acquire rights to develop the RE resources.
