World’s Largest, $95Bn Renewables Hub to Be Developed in Western Australia Western Australia (WA) is poised to become the host of the world’s largest renewable energy hub, promising a mix of wind and solar that could match Australia’s entire energy fleet and contribute a whopping 50 GW (gigawatts) in power generation. The Western Green Energy Hub (WGEH) is set to cost $95 billion (US$70 billion) and occupy 15,000 square kilometres (5,800 square miles) of south-eastern WA, with final plans due to be drawn up in 2028. The proposal is headed by Hong-Kong-based groups InterContinental Energy (ICE) and CWP Global in an unprecedented partnership with Indigenous landowners, the Mirning people.
