Practical plans for net metering expansion needed: Nasrul

DHAKA, Jan 27, 2021 (BSS) – State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid today said practical plans are needed for expansion of net metering rooftop solar programmes.
“With technical supports and ideas, customers will be encouraged in using net metering method across the country,” he said, speaking virtually at the closing ceremony of a training course on Net Metering Rooftop Solar.
Nasrul Hamid said initiatives will have to be taken for building awareness about the net metering rooftop solar programmes across the country, as it is financially affordable.
“Those who had participated in the training course should work at their respective areas for expansion of the net metering solar programmes,” he said.

The success of the power sector depends on ensuring access to electricity, cost reduction, demand side management and enhancing use of non-conventional cleaner, renewable energy for power generation, experts told a virtual dialogue yesterday.
Titled Reflections of the power sector in the upcoming eighth Five-Year Plan: perspectives on strategies and initiatives , the dialogue was organised by the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD).
The government took various programmes under the Seventh Five-Year Plan to improve the power situation and 80 per cent of it has been achieved, CPD Research Director Khondaker Golam Moazzem said in his keynote presentation.

quality of transmission and distribution in the power sector, said
experts at a virtual discussion today.
They said improvement of transmission and distribution of
electricity should be a major focus of the power sector during the 8th
FYP period. Focus should also be given on strengthening the capacity
of implementing renewable energy projects, and both traditional and
non-traditional renewable energy projects should get priority in the
upcoming policy document.
