Sens. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., and Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, are introducing legislation to create a renewable fuel infrastructure grant program to help fuel retailers sell high blends of ethanol. The legislation would help streamline the rules that prevent retail stations from providing higher blends.
HURON, S.D. – Impacts of market consolidation on farmers and ranchers was the focus of Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar’s February 26 presentation to producers during the 2021 National Farmers Union Virtual Convention.
“Farmers are paying a lot more, but not getting a lot more,” Klobuchar said. She shared that this is largely due to market consolidation – noting just two companies sell 80 percent of all corn seed. And the Chairwoman of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Competition Policy, Antitrust, and Consumer Rights, pointed out increased input costs do not translate to increased profits.
“When it comes to selling crops and livestock, farmers and ranchers have ever fewer options as they struggle to get a fair price,” Klobuchar said.

The co-chairs of the House Biofuels Caucus have introduced two new pieces of legislation to increase access to biofuels and to fully recognize their environmental benefits.
Rep. Cindy Axne, D-Iowa, and Rep. Dusty Johnson, R-S.D., was the lead sponsor of the Adopt GREET Act, which will direct the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to update its greenhouse gas modeling for ethanol and biodiesel.
“One of the largest barriers to increased use of higher blends of biofuels is the lack of infrastructure and availability for consumers,” says Axne. “My bipartisan legislation will provide consistent federal investment for biofuels infrastructure and will remove barriers for E15. I’m also proud to support Johnson’s legislation to ensure the EPA is using the most up
