Growth Energy praises senate push on biofuel infrastructure
Growth Energy Tuesday again called on the Environmental Protection Agency to reject calls to delay Renewable Fuel Standard compliance. Chris Bliley, Growth Energy’s Senior Vice President of Regulatory Affairs, participated in a virtual EPA hearing on the proposal to extend the RFS compliance deadlines for the 2019 and 2020 Renewable Volume Obligations.
During his testimony, Bliley called on EPA to reject calls to delay RFS compliance and instead take immediate steps to restore integrity to the RFS and restore lost biofuel demand.
Bliley stated, “The intent of the RFS is to blend more biofuels into our nation’s transportation fuel supply. Period. It is not meant to have oil companies use questionable legal tactics to avoid blending biofuels and then demanding that the agency further delay compliance.”
Refiners and biofuel producers on Friday took their opening swipes at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's 2020 implementation of the Renewable Fuel Standard program, telling the D.C. Circuit that the agency botched its calculation of how much renewable fuel must be blended into the U.S. transportation fuel supply.
by Todd Neeley (DTN Progressive Farmer) The Senate rejected an attempt by Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, to cap the price of renewable identification numbers, or RINs, at 10 cents, as part of a proposed amendment to the COVID-19 stimulus bill, in the wee hours of the morning on Friday.
RINs are generated in the Renewable Fuel Standard when a qualified renewable fuel is either produced or imported. RINs then are bought within the refinery industry by companies that are not producing or buying enough renewable fuels to meet their blend volumes under the RFS. There are several nested categories for RINs depending upon the renewable such as corn ethanol or biodiesel which do have different values. D6 is considered the baseline RIN.
by John Eichberger (Fuels Institute) … Fuels Institute recently published “The Impact of Transportation-related Environmental Initiatives” which provides an objective assessment of 37 global efforts and a deep dive into 14 of the most prominent initiatives affecting transportation. As we embark upon a dedicated path to reducing carbon emissions, this report can serve as a foundation for evaluating which options, or combinations of options, might be the most effective.
Evaluating the Map for Possible Routes
The battle against carbon emissions can take many different forms, some more effective than others, some less expensive than others. The chart below plots 14 different initiatives analyzed in our report based upon their relative effectiveness and cost compared to one another. This comparison forms the basis of our report and provides a quick snapshot of how these initiatives rank. For those specifically related to carbon, I typically focus on the following: Carbon prici
