What does Biden s climate team mean for farmers?

MacXever/iStock/Thinkstock New nominees for EPA, Department of Interior and climate advisers could bring new direction in addressing the changing climate. President-elect Joe Biden has made it clear from day one he intends to lead with action on the climate. And now he’s filling his climate team with some familiar faces and some new ones that could bring a change to agriculture. “We have a good idea of the vision President-elect Biden is trying to accomplish. And as it relates to agriculture it is positive,” says Ethan Lane, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association’s vice president of government affairs. The concern comes in when the progressive left of the party tries to take actions further.

Green energy interests boosted Biden, Dems

(Mark Makela/Getty Images) Jobs, not trees, are at the center of President-elect Joe Biden’s climate plan. The $2 trillion proposal focuses on switching over to clean energy sources, a move that, Biden promises, will create millions more jobs for Americans.  It’s a promise that has piqued the interest of individuals and PACs associated with alternative energy production. Looking out for their careers as well as the environment, the growing industry more than doubled its contributions from previous election cycles and gave a record $11.1 million in 2020.  That spending comes in an election year twice as expensive as the 2016 election. And the oil and gas industry far outspent its counterpart.

7 Questions About Renewable Natural Gas, Answered | World Resources Institute

Renewable natural gas facilities turn organic waste into a fossil fuel alternative. Photo by John Fricker/Geograph UK The production and use of renewable natural gas made from organic waste is growing rapidly in the United States. The number of production facilities in the country which convert landfill waste, animal manure, wastewater, food waste and other organic feedstocks into fuel that is interchangeable with fossil natural gas has grown from approximately 40 prior to 2014 to nearly 160 today. Due to the potential benefits of renewable natural gas as an alternative to fossil fuels, a handful of states including California, Washington and Oregon have integrated it into climate goals. Both state and national assessments find that sufficient amounts of the waste-derived fuel could be produced to displace as much as 4-7% of current fossil gas consumption, while delivering other co-benefits related to waste management.
