Industrial Decarbonisation Strategy sets outs aims to support adoption of a range of solutions including heat recovery, hydrogen fuel and CCUS over the next two decades
Adoption of heat recovery solutions, hydrogen networks and more energy efficient solutions such as heat pumps are expected to be important tools in the UK’s industrial decarbonisation plans.
The government’s Industrial Decarbonisation Strategy identified heat as a significant area of focus to ensure that carbon emissions from industrial process can be eliminated or offset entirely by 2050 in line with the UK’s net zero targets.
Overall emissions from industrial processes will need to be cut by two thirds by 2035, according to the government. At least 90 per cent of these emissions will then need to be eliminated by 2050 through a combined reliance on Carbon Capture, Usage and Storage (CCUS) and low carbon fuels such as hydrogen and electrification for certain processes.
