The growth of wind and solar industries brings a critical source of revenue and jobs to rural counties, and the occasional dustup over land use.
Driving south on Highway 19 from Arlington on the Columbia River, the road climbs steadily through rolling hills. After only a few miles, the road reaches the Columbia plateau, where dryland wheat farms stretch as far as the eye can see.
Marion Weatherford owns a wheat farm on the plateau close to where his family has been farming for five generations. “Our great-great-grandfather came over on the Oregon Trail when he was 16, in 1860,” Weatherford says. In 1881 he started farming wheat.

Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind has entered into a partnership with South Jersey Industries (SJI) to collaborate on a green hydrogen pilot project in New Jersey.
The two parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore using the excess electricity generated from offshore wind projects to create green hydrogen that can be blended with the supply to lower carbon intensity.
SJI will provide expertise in the natural gas blending process and access to its infrastructure to operate the pilot.

The project will research, monitor, and analyse the deployment of hydrogen technology and natural gas blending in New Jersey.
Atlantic Shores is pursuing the development of a portfolio of offshore wind sites off New Jersey s Atlantic and Ocean County coasts.
