U.S. employers added just 266,000 jobs in April, according to a monthly snapshot from the Labor Department. It was the weakest month of job growth since January. We knew this would not be a 100-day battle, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen told reporters at the White House. Today s jobs report underscores the long-haul climb back to recovery.

The Justice Department has filed federal criminal charges against Derek Chauvin, accusing the former police officer of using excessive force and violating the civil rights of George Floyd. Floyd died after Chauvin pressed on his neck for more than nine minutes on the pavement outside a convenience store last year in Minneapolis.

The Justice Department has filed federal criminal charges against Derek Chauvin, accusing the former police officer of using excessive force and violating the civil rights of George Floyd. Floyd died after Chauvin pressed on his neck for more than nine minutes on the pavement outside a convenience store in Minneapolis last year.
Three other former officers on the scene that day Thomas Lane, J. Alexander Kueng and Tou Thao have been charged federally in connection with Floyd s death. Two of the men, Kueng and Thao, are accused of failing to intervene to stop Chauvin. All three face a charge of failing to provide medical care with deliberate indifference to Floyd s suffering. They already are preparing for a state trial in August.

U.S. employers added just 266,000 jobs in April, according to a monthly snapshot from the Labor Department. It was the weakest month of job growth since January. Loading.
The unemployment rate rose to 6.1%, from 6% in March, partly because hundreds of thousands of people joined the workforce.
The labor market is still far from fully recovered. Even with last month s gains, there are still 8.2 million fewer workers on payrolls than there were before the pandemic. Job gains for March were also revised down, from 916,000 to 770,000.
