South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott delivered the official Republican response to President Biden s address to Congress.
Scott, the lone Black GOP senator, spoke after Biden concluded his remarks Wednesday night.
When Scott was announced for the role, he said in a statement that he would be sharing Republicans optimistic vision for expanding opportunity and empowering working families. In his address, he sought to offer an alternative to the Biden agenda, while defending the GOP, and the nation at large, against charges of racism. America is not a racist country, Scott said. It s wrong to try to use our painful past to try to dishonestly shut down debates in the present.

The U.S. economy expanded at a rapid pace in the first three months of the year, setting the stage for what s expected to be the strongest annual growth in nearly four decades.
According to the Commerce Department, the economy grew at an annual rate of 6.4% between January and March as millions of Americans got vaccinated against COVID-19 and the federal government spent trillions of dollars to counteract the effects of the pandemic recession. The $1,400 paychecks that hit consumer mailboxes in March made a difference, said Nela Richardson, chief economist at the payroll processing company ADP.

A New York City man charged with making online threats to kill members of Congress after the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol has been found guilty and now faces up to 10 years in jail.
The jury took about three hours to deliberate in the case of Brendan Hunt, who acknowledged that he had written the online statements but dismissed them as “blather” produced under the influence of marijuana and alcohol.
He testified that that he never believed the posts would be taken seriously.
“I was really just letting off steam,” Hunt said, according to The Associated Press. “It was really more online blather than anything else.”

The National Transportation Safety Board recommendations to brake equipment suppliers have long emphasized caution about manual adjustments for pushrod stroke when automatic slack adjusters [ASAs] are installed.
