MARYLAND- The Congressional Delegation announced nearly $9 million in new federal funding this week to help strengthen and expand early childhood education in the state.
The Funding comes from the United States Department of Health and Human Services,’ which provides the Preschool Development Grant Birth through Five Renewal Grant Program.
Congressman Andy Harris told us the program supports state-led efforts to enhance early childhood education experiences, especially among disadvantaged children to better prepare them for school down the line.
Harris added this funding is needed now more than ever, due to the impacts of the pandemic.
“What we’re seeing during the COVID crisis is for instance is how complicated education is, how important education is, we know for instance in the grade schools that have not been able to remain open we do know educational achievement is slipping,” Rep. Andy Harris, (R) Maryland, said.
