Things are a little different this year. However, the more things change, the more important it is to keep traditions alive like the magic of reading.
After going online last year in response to the Covid-19 situation, the Publishers and Booksellers Association of Thailand (Pubat) is gearing up for the comeback of the 49th National Book Fair and 19th Bangkok International Book Fair in both the digital and physical format. The in-person event is scheduled to kick off after the Songkran holidays and will take place at Bitec Bangna between April 17-25. There is easy access to the arena via the BTS Bang Na station.

Canadian Independent Bookstore Day is making a comeback in 2021. The celebration of indie booksellers will be held on April 24, with the public-facing campaign launching Tuesday, April 6.
CIBD, traditionally held the last Saturday of April to coincide with the U.S. Independent Bookstore Day, was taken over by the Retail Council of Canada in 2018, but booksellers felt the campaign got lost in the organization’s broader mandate. But now, boosted by the organizational muscle of the Canadian Independent Bookstore Association, this year will feature more than 60 stores participating across Canada and seven publishers including HarperCollins

In Wales, the Independent Bookshop of the Year goes to Penarth s Griffin Books who hit national news praised for their flexible approach during lockdowns including remote working. Griffin Books of Penarth, opened in 2014. The judges praised owner Mel Griffin and her team’s adaptability, with its flexible approach during lockdowns including remote working, diversifying its distribution when book supply became difficult and, during the Welsh October firebreak, negotiating with a neighbouring essential shop to become a collection point in order to maintain its high street presence.

World Book Day has been energetically promoting reading for pleasure in the UK since 1997.
This year s event, being held today despite lockdown, will still be spreading the joy of picking up a book and sending £1 book tokens to schools for every child. And while many Kent bookshops have been shut for months due to the pandemic, owners hope young readers will wait to spend the tokens in their stores.
