NASA’s Ingenuity Mars Helicopter continues to set records, flying faster and farther on Sunday, April 25, 2021 than in any tests it went through on Earth. The helicopter took off at 1:31 a.m. EDT (4:31 a.m. PDT), or 12:33 p.m. local Mars time, rising 16 feet (5 meters) – the same altitude as its second flight. Then it zipped downrange 164 feet (50 meters), almost half the length of a football field, reaching a top speed of 6.6 feet per second (2 meters per second).

Ingenuity Helicopter clicks first aerial colour image of Mars

(Image credit: NASA/JPL-Caltech) Washington, April 25 NASA s Ingenuity Mars Helicopter has captured the first colour image of the Martian surface. The Ingenuity Mars Helicopter captured it with its colour camera during its second successful flight test on April 22, the US space agency said in a statement. While capturing the image, Ingenuity was 17 feet (5.2-metre) above the surface and pitching (moving the camera s field of view upward) so the helicopter could begin its 7-foot (2-metre) translation to the west - away from the rover.

Here s How NASA Engineers Communicate With the First Helicopter to Fly on Another Planet, the Ingenuity Mars Helicopter

23 April 2021, 08:04 pm (Photo : Screenshot From Commons.Wikipedia.org) Here s How NASA Engineers Communicate With the First Helicopter to Fly on Another Planet, the Ingenuity Mars Helicopter The Ingenuity is NASA s Mars Helicopter that has recently completed two flights on the outer space planet. This was the first time ever that a helicopter was flown outside of Earth! While the two flights are finished and there could be up to 3 to go, one might wonder how NASA engineers are able to communicate with the helicopter. Here s how. NASA Ingenuity Mars Helicopter NASA Tweeted out an image of the Ingenuity Mars Helicopter that was reportedly soaring to new heights. The tweet also included a particular link to a new episode of the official Gravity Assist podcast that had Chief Scientist Jim Green.
