Considering the tense situation in some of the politically sensitive rural areas in Kozhikode, security measures adopted by the local police to tackle post-election violence will be maintained as such for a few more days. Night patrol has been intensified in Nadapuram area, where Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) workers locked horns many times over election results.
Meanwhile, District Police Chief (Kozhikode rural) A. Sreenivas said prohibitory orders would not be extended.

The Left Democratic Front (LDF) has won 43 out of the 70 grama panchayats in Kozhikode district by demonstrating an unquestionable supremacy in the majority of the rural areas. At the end of the fight on Wednesday, the United Democratic Front (UDF) had to be content with 27 seats after its strange coalitions and local tie-ups failed to make any significant advances against the ruling front.
Slight advantage
Though the LDF was fortunate to have 48 panchayats last time, it could not repeat the same magic because of the anti-incumbency factor and strong campaign by its political rivals. Meanwhile, the UDF had a slight advantage, improving from 22 panchayats to 27 in 2020.

Despite some unexpected setbacks, the Revolutionary Marxist Party of India (RMPI) has managed to prove its political significance again by putting up a strong fight against the Left Democratic Front (LDF) in the local body elections. The formation of ‘Janakeeya Munnani’, which also had the support of the United Democratic Front (UDF) leadership, helped it challenge politically strong rivals even in their strongholds.
The victory in Eramala panchayat was the most significant one for the new RMPI-UDF alliance this time.

Political fronts appalled by rate in wards where they had fielded strong candidates While most wards in the Kozhikode Corporation had very high polling rate, some above 80%, the drastically low voting rate in a few wards has brought down the overall polling rate in the civic body. At 70.49%, the Corporation’s polling rate is the lowest among local bodies in the district and much lower than the State’s average rate.
