Swannie Jett named to MPHA board of directors

The Brookline Department of Public Health recently shared that Health Commissioner Swannie Jett has been named to the board of directors for the Massachusetts Public Health Association.
The MPHA is a nonprofit advocacy and community organizing group that works to create health equity by addressing the root causes of disparities in health and wellness. It promotes policies that support positive health outcomes, including access to food, safe and affordable housing and transportation, as well as equitable public health services throughout Massachusetts.
Recently, the group has advocated for a cohesive response to the COVID-19 pandemic through scientific approaches to safety measures, as well as an approach to ensuring residents who have suffered financial hardship are able to remain in their homes, especially as the outbreak is expected to worsen in the coming months.
Brookline Fire responds to possible hazmat incident at DPW facility

Chief John F. Sullivan reported that the Brookline Fire Department responded to a possible hazardous materials incident at the Brookline Department of Public Works on Dec. 8.
At 12:34 p.m., the Brookline Fire Department was dispatched to the Municipal Service Center, 870 Hammond St., for a report of a chemical odor. The METROFIRE District HazMat Response Team was requested for a level one response to investigate the possible causes of the odor.
Four public works employees were evaluated on scene and subsequently transported to area hospitals as a precaution. The cause of the incident remains under investigation at this time.
