May 27, 2021 Instead of digging through archives in Paris and Geneva, history Prof. Helen Tilley, a single mother, spent the spring of her sabbatical researching and writing on the bed while her then-11-year-old daughter completed virtual assignments next to her.  Tilley, a Northwestern faculty member since 2012, was on research leave in Cambridge, England. When COVID-19 caused worldwide shutdowns, Tilley and her daughter remained in their rented townhouse bedroom, which didn’t have room for a desk.  Her daughter would interrupt her several times each day about making lunch, walking the dog or completing her homework. Although Tilley said she wanted to help her daughter, the situation wasn’t conducive to getting her research work done.

Hari M Osofsky named dean of Northwestern Pritzker School of Law

Northwestern Now Hari Osofsky has focused on building legal and international affairs education. Hari M. Osofsky, dean of Penn State Law and the Penn State School of International Affairs and Distinguished Professor of Law, professor of international affairs and professor of geography, has been appointed dean of Northwestern Pritzker School of Law, effective Aug. 1. She is also appointed the Myra and James Bradwell Professor. “I am thrilled to welcome Hari Osofsky into the Northwestern University community,” Provost Kathleen Hagerty said. “Her dynamic experience as a leader, scholar and mentor further strengthens Northwestern Pritzker Law’s national reputation for excellence and innovation at a time when we are reimagining our approaches to society’s injustices.”

2021 Clauve Awards honor campus leaders

2021 Clauve Awards honor campus leaders May 10, 2021 Seven University of New Mexico students are being commended for their achievements and contributions to the campus community. Abigale Aldrich, Muskan Amin, Ansely Emeanuwa, Ana Milan Hinostroza, Brittany Huddleston, Jacob Silva and Maria Vielma have been named Clauve Outstanding Seniors for 2021, in recognition of their academic success and campus leadership. The Clauve Award is one UNM s most prestigious awards for students. It is presented to outstanding seniors who have performed well academically and made significant contributions to the campus community through their outstanding leadership and involvement in student organizations and activities The Clauve Award is named for Dean Emeritus Lena Clauve, a UNM music education teacher and the first Dean of Women. She retired in 1961, but remained active on campus until her death at the age of 98 in 1994.
