Hey Gladstone, grab a cuppa for a good cause

Premium Content Subscriber only Gladstone Bowls Club will play host to the Port City’s version of Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea on Thursday. For 28 years, the Cancer Council Queensland annual event has brought together millions of people over a “cuppa” to support those affected by cancer. In 2021, the official day to host a morning tea is Thursday May 27, but anyone can host at any time in May or June. By hosting or attending an Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea (in-person or virtually), participants will help Cancer Council Queensland continue its life-saving cancer research, prevention, advocacy and support programs. Cancer Council Queensland’s Gladstone Branch has invited the community to join them at Gladstone Bowls Club on Thursday in support of all Queenslanders affected by cancer.

Cancer survivor calls for support

Premium Content Subscriber only Breast cancer survivor and the face of 2021 Rockhampton Relay for Life, Susan Earle, is calling on the community to rally together for this year’s event. She said she was grateful for the organisation’s support throughout her cancer experience. “My cancer experience started in 2018 when I found a lump in my breast,” she said. “After visiting my GP and subsequently having scans and biopsies, I was diagnosed with extremely aggressive HER2-positive breast cancer. “My treatment was far from easy but I’m forever grateful for the support I received from Cancer Council Queensland.” Her diabetes and allergic reaction to some of the immunotherapy drugs, combined with the 18 rounds of chemotherapy preceding surgery came with their challenges.
