FAMILY My husband, Steve, and I have three adult children. Our oldest daughter and her husband are expecting their first child, our first grandchild, this spring. Our second daughter is engaged and is planning a summer wedding. Our son, the “baby,” is a college junior. We have one very spoiled rescue dog, Opie, and an 18-year-old American Quarter Horse mare named Skeeter. WHAT SUBJECT DO YOU TEACH?  I currently teach math and science to 9- and 10-year-olds in fourth grade. I have been teaching fourth grade at Jackson for 10 years. I was a reading tutor for two years prior to teaching full time at Jackson.

Canton City school board approves Design for Excellence restructuring

CANTON  Massive changes in the way Stark County’s largest school district educates its students are coming. The five-member Canton City school board on Wednesday approved the district’s Design for Excellence plan, which reconfigures nearly every school building in an effort to reduce operating costs while providing more educational opportunities for students. Tricia Stanton, a third-grade teacher with Canton City Schools, pulls out all the stops to keep her students engaged as they learn from home on computer screens. From glittery gloves to bells, fancy wall drops and more she has it all. Tricia Stanton Tricia Stanton, a third grade teacher with Canton School s new Bulldog Virtual Academy, says that she has experienced growth since she began teaching virtually and has been able to spread her wings. Like Stanton, all the teachers in Canton were trained to teach physically in the classroom. But very quickly, over the past year, many have had to learn a whole different set of skills to teach virtually.

Canton City Schools restructuring proposal up for a vote Wednesday

Three months after Jeff Talbert conducted a virtual listening tour to hear from residents, the Canton City Schools superintendent was back on tour answering their questions about the district’s sweeping restructuring proposal. Talbert spent more than five hours during five virtual community meetings over the past two weeks fielding questions about the Design for Excellence plan, which restructures each of the district’s 22 school buildings in an effort to reduce the number of buildings and amount of staff to match declining enrollment while giving students more educational opportunities. “It was good to hear from the community about what was important to them,  said Talbert during an interview with The Canton Repository on Friday.
