Johnson entered the portal
back in June. Entering his sophomore season this past spring, Johnson was slotted as a fourth-string quarterback behind fellow class member Ta’Quan Roberson.
Coming out of Oregon, the quarterback committed to Penn State’s class of 2019 as a four-star prospect and the No. 15 dual-threat quarterback in the nation. Johnson received 29 total offers from programs around the nation during his recruitment.
Johnson redshirted during his 2019 season in Happy Valley and didn’t play a snap. Penn State’s quarterback room will remain crowded even with Johnson gone, as Micah Bowens sits behind Roberson while Christian Veilleux will join the Nittany Lions next semester.
