The victim of a Tuesday morning shark bite has been identified as a 39-year-old man whose arm and hand were bitten while he was swimming off of Siesta Key.
A female caller told a 911 operator that the victim was swimming off Siesta Key when he was bitten. He walked home afterward, but bled profusely in the house after he got back.
The caller told the dispatcher that the victim was alert but “bleeding to death.” The dispatcher explained to the caller and another person present how to stop the bleeding until paramedics arrived.

A 39-year-old man has been hospitalized after being bitten by a shark in the waters off Siesta Key in the Gulf of Mexico.
He reportedly walked home after the attack, which took place on Tuesday morning, after suffering wounds to his hand and his arm.
A woman called 911 upon discovering his injuries at 8.24am local time, and had him taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, where his status and the severity of his injuries have not yet been disclosed due to patient privacy.
In the 911 call, which has been heard by Fox 13 News Tampa Bay, the woman says they need help right away because the man is bleeding to death.

The 39-year-old man sustained injuries to his hand and arm but survived the unprovoked attack, Fox 13 News reported.
In a 911 call obtained by the station, a woman told dispatchers that she needed help “right away” because the victim was “bleeding to death.” The dispatcher then explained to the caller how to stop the bleeding until emergency crews arrived.
The unidentified victim was taken to the Sarasota Memorial Hospital, but his condition was not immediately known. Hospital staff reportedly confirmed that the man’s injuries were the result of a shark bite.
