Okaloosa Arts Alliance names winners of Okaloosa County School Poster Contest

Special to the Northwest Florida Daily News/USA TODAY NETWORK FORT WALTON BEACH  The Okaloosa Arts Alliance (OAA) announced the winners of the 12th annual OAA Okaloosa County School Poster Contest.  The theme for this year s contest, which went online for the second year amid the COVID-19 pandemic, was “Family Time.  All 142 student entries are viewable online. Participating schools included Rocky Bayou Christian School, Crestview High School, Silver Sands School, Meigs Middle School, Lewis Middle School, Bluewater Elementary and Plew Elementary. Eglin Federal Credit Union donated gift cards for all the winners and Fort Walton Beach Sam’s Club additionally covered two extra third place winners. Each first-place prize was a $75 gift card, each second-place prize was a $50 gift card, and each third-place prize was a $25 gift card.

Singer songwriter Tim Jackson performs a one-night only show in Miramar Beach

(ECTC) will put a song in your heart when singer/songwriter Tim Jackson takes the stage in The Listening Lounge. New this season, The Listening Lounge is part of ECTC’s Professional Theatre Second Stage series that showcases live local musicians. Jackson is the final artist in the series and will perform a one-night only show on Tuesday, April 27, at 7:30 p.m. The Listening Lounge is staged within ECTC’s performance space located on the second floor of 560 Grand Boulevard in Grand Boulevard at Sandestin in Miramar Beach.

Special to the Northwest Florida Daily News/USA TODAY NETWORK CRESTVIEW  “Beyond The Sound of Music: The Real von Trapp Family and America’s Most Beloved Musical” will be presented by Crestview public information officer Brian Hughes at 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 23, during Family Library Time at the Crestview Public Library. Hughes admitted he s a longtime aficionado of the film, stage musical, and the remarkable story of Baron Georg and Baroness Maria von Trapp, and their nine children. “One summer evening between sixth and seventh grade, my mom took my brother and me to one of the last showings of The Sound of Music during its initial four-and-a-half-year run,” he said. “Those three magical and visually breathtaking hours in the Oakland Theatre in Warwick, New York, captivated me in many ways.”

LakeFest 2021 in DeFuniak Springs Florida to open with Jeff Bates concert

Special to the Northwest Florida Daily News/USA TODAY NETWORK DEFUNIAK SPRINGS - Country singer Jeff Bates will kick off LakeFest on May 14 with a free concert at 7 p.m. at the DeFuniak Springs Amphitheatre.  “Jeff Bates has an enormous following of fans including those in DeFuniak Springs,” said DeFuniak Springs Mayor Bob Campbell, chair of the festival’s organizing group.  “We are very excited he could accept our invitation to open LakeFest 2021, and we expect record crowds for his performance.” Jeff Bates signed to RCA Records in late 2002 and released his debut album Rainbow Man in May 2003, followed by his second RCA album, Leave The Light On in 2005.  Bates’s two RCA albums accounted for seven chart singles on the Billboard country charts, of which three reached the Top 40: “The Love Song,” “I Wanna Make You Cry,” and “Long, Slow Kisses.”
