Congress members: Big Cypress should be part of the climate solution
The letter also urges the federal government to deny the applications.
“As you know, the Biden-Harris administration has begun to advance a whole-of-government, climate-forward agenda,” the letter says. “We fully support this agenda, and we believe our country’s public lands and national park sites – including Big Cypress – should be part of the climate solution.”
The letter was addressed to the department’s deputy director of operations, Shawn Benge, and new Fish and Wildlife and Parks Assistant Secretary Shannon Estenoz.
Estenoz was an advocate for Everglades restoration under the Obama administration and worked as the Everglades Foundation’s chief operating officer.
Brick by brick, the stucco shell of a new flood-resilient public works building is taking shape blocks from the beach, the most visible sign yet of a small community s enormous task staving off the rising sea. This is actually the highest point in the city, Satellite Beach City Manager Courtney Barker said, adding that right next door to the new public works building will be a new fire station.

PANAMA CITY The Florida Department of Health in Bay County has issued an advisory for parts of St. Andrew Bay because of a raw sewage release.
According to a news release from DOH-Bay officials, about 13,500 gallons of raw sewage was released following an equipment failure at 301 Bunkers Cove Road in Panama City. The raw sewage flowed into a storm drain, which empties into St. Andrew Bay.
Health department officials advise against swimming in St. Andrew Bay from Bunkers Point to 528 Bunkers Cove Road until further notice.
Sewage contamination of water can expose swimmers to intestinal viruses, bacteria and parasites, and can cause vomiting and diarrhea. Infection also is possible through open cuts and wounds that come in contact with the polluted water, according to the release.
