Palm Coast City Council approved transferring a $1 million forgivable loan and a $1.5 million grant to Jacksonville University to help establish an education center in Palm Coast.
The Palm Coast Observer, a Jacksonville Daily Record sister publication, reported the approval was made March 2.
The university will build-out a 6,000-square-foot space in an existing building to create classrooms, labs and office space.
The grant and loan also will be used to provide for 20-30 staff members at an average annual salary of $67,000; technology resources; and marketing and recruitment support.
The Flagler County site will be the first campus outside Jacksonville in the institution’s 86-year history.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. There have been a lot of changes and confusion just over the past few days regarding where school personnel can get vaccinated.
State officials gave the OK Thursday for federally supported sites, like Gateway Mall and its two satellite sites in Jacksonville, to offer the vaccine to any school personnel kindergarten through twelfth grade. This means teachers, bus drivers, daycare employees, head start employees and any other school personnel can get vaccinated at these federally supported sites.

In the evolving cycle of who is eligible for vaccines under the state’s priorities, DeSantis this week opened availability to include firefighters, law enforcement and K-12 schools employees 50 and older.
On Thursday, the governor acknowledged that all K-12 and daycare center workers in Florida can get vaccines through Publix, CVS, Walgreens, Walmart and federally-run vaccination sites.
But during a news conference Friday in Marion County, DeSantis said he doesn’t plan on making any changes in vaccine eligibility based on employee classifications.

The University of North Florida and Florida State College at Jacksonville hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony Feb. 22 to celebrate a new facility and academic partnership between UNF MedNexus and FSCJ.
“UNF MedNexus addresses the region’s growing and evolving health care needs through education and development of talented nurses and health care workers who are prepared to enter the workforce,” UNF President David Szymanski said in a news release.
“Our academic and facility partnership with FSCJ allows us to advance health care education in an innovative and progressive manner by positively impacting the number of high-demand health care professionals,” he said.
