Wednesday’s presidential inauguration ceremony featured a new fanfare composed by Florida State University graduate Kimberly K. Archer, a professor of composition at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. Archer’s new fanfare is titled “Fanfare Politeia,” according to a release from her publishing company, Murphy Music Press in Cleveland.

Loranne Ausley, D-Tallahassee, will chair the meeting. Attending will be state Reps. Jason Shoaf, R-Port St. Joe, Ramon Alexander, D-Tallahassee and Allison Tant, D-Tallahassee. (Shoaf s Panhandle district includes part of Leon.)  Legislation under review includes a bill on Roberts, a late Florida Supreme Court justice. The building name issue was one of many rallying cries for protesters this past summer after the deaths of Black people at the hands of police around the country, including George Floyd in Minneapolis.

Several Jacksonville law firms are beginning 2021 with new attorneys on their staffs. Jimerson Birr Hunter Faulkner joined the Jimerson Birr law firm as partner. Faulkner represents buyers and sellers in contract negotiations for the acquisition, sale and finance of residential and commercial real estate in Northeast Florida. His practice includes land use law, estate planning and corporate law. A Navy veteran, Faulkner received his law degree from the University of Miami after graduating from the University of North Florida in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in political science. He’s a member of the NAIOP Commercial Real Estate Development Association and the Jacksonville Bar Association.

Former House Speaker says he will match donations to Whole Child Leon

Casey Chapter | Tallahassee Democrat Former Florida House of Representatives Speaker Allan Bense has pledged to match donations to local nonprofit Whole Child Leon. Bense, a Republican, served in the Florida House 1998-2006. He represented Gulf, Franklin and parts of Bay counties, and rose to Speaker 2004-06. He is pledging to match contributions to the nonprofit s  Friends of Whole Child Leon up to $7,200 through Dec. 31, according to a Friday press release. Whole Child Leon, established in 2004, is a local nonprofit dedicated to helping nurture young children and foster child growth from mental and physical health to social-emotional well-being. “The Christmas Season can always be challenging for hard-working families and, especially this year, far too many are struggling in far too many ways,” Bense said in a statement.
