COVID-19: Against expert advice, Florida to vaccinate seniors before workers
Federal coronavirus vaccine advisers have recommended giving shots to frontline essential workers before some seniors, but Florida will not, Gov. Ron DeSantis said Tuesday. We are not going to put young healthy workers ahead of our vulnerable elderly population, DeSantis said during a press conference at The Villages Regional Hospital in the large retiree community in Sumter County for people 55 and older. The vaccines are going to be targeted where the risk is greatest, and that is in our elderly population, DeSantis said at the event showing residents getting their first doses of the vaccine.
