TAMPA, Fla. - The Tampa Greyhound resumed the use of the single-shot Johnson and Johnson vaccine at 7 a.m. Sunday, April 25, 2021, after an 11-day pause due to reports of rare adverse effects.
The FDA and the CDC paused the J&J vaccine because they identified a total of 15 blood clot cases among nearly 8 million recipients of the shot.
Health experts say the FDA and CDC were doing their due diligence to make sure the vaccine was safe. The FDA Commissioner said this week that the vaccine meets its guidelines for safety and effectiveness.

According to NASA, the full moon that peaks tonight will mark the first âsupermoonâ of 2021 â meaning the moon will look larger and brighter than normal.
Todayâs event is also being referred to as the âSuper Pink Moon,â but it will have nothing to do with the moon s color. The Pink Moon is the Old Farmerâs Almanac nickname for Aprilâs full moon. According to the Almanac, the âPink Moonâ got its name because it often corresponds with the early springtime blooms of creeping phlox, a flower native to northern and eastern North America.
Turnout low as Johnson & Johnson vaccine returns in Florida
April 26, 2021 GMT
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) Turnout was so low for the Johnson & Johnson single-shot vaccine at a central Florida FEMA-run site that about 90% of the daily supply went unused following a 11-day pause, health officials said.
The federally-run vaccine site at Valencia College’s West Campus in Orlando only administered 268 doses of the 3,000 Johnson & Johnson vaccines that were available on Sunday, site spokesman Ian Ohlin told the Orlando Sentinel.
For much of the day, there was “little to no wait,” Ohlin said.
A similar story played out at a Miami-Dade College vaccine site in South Florida, where 127 Johnson & Johnson doses were administered as of Sunday afternoon, compared to roughly 300 Pfizer vaccines, WSVN reported.
