Building waste fragments suspected to contain asbestos have been found on a popular beach track near Seatoun in Wellington. Local Anne Taylor was left feeling “gutted” after her discovery while walking in the Oruaiti Reserve, east of Seatoun beach.
The artist and “citizen scientist” reported her findings to the Wellington City Council supplying photographs and the location of the fragments.
After nearly a month of being a “squeaky wheel,” Taylor learned the information was with a beach clean-up crew who also remove asbestos near Moa Point and at the edge of the Taputeranga Marine Reserve between Houghton Bay and Hungerford Road.

NAB’s latest survey of real estate professionals revealed that the share of Australian homes sold to foreign buyers hit the lowest level in records dating back to 2010, accounting for only 2.2% of established home sales in Q1 2021:
The share of new and established homes sold to foreign buyers has hit its lowest level on record.
New data released today by Statistics New Zealand reveals that foreign buyers have also lost interest in New Zealand, with just 714 homes purchased by foreign nationals in the year to March 2021, less than half the 1473 homes sold by foreign nationals over the same period:

Significant challenges have been forecast for Tauranga and the Western Bay district with the area s total population expected to grow to nearly 270,000 in the next 27 years. In 2018, the Census estimated 142,100 people lived in Tauranga City and 53,300 in the Western Bay of Plenty. Collectively, these populations were expected to grow by 20,000 in the next two years.
But new projections obtained by the Bay of Plenty Times from Statistics New Zealand reveal Tauranga s population is predicted to soar 57,000 to reach 199,100 and Western Bay s by 14,700 to reach 68,000 by 2048 making a total of 267,100.
