After seven months of a vital and valued service, Cody Regional Health feels the current COVID-19 situation merits a safe stop to testing at the Rodeo Grounds.
Cody Regional Health announced the closure of drive-thru testing at the Cody Stampede Rodeo Grounds on Wednesday. Starting next week, there will be no testing offered Tuesday and Thursday mornings at the Rodeo Grounds.
Keith Ungrund, Chief Clinical Officer at Cody Regional Health, says the drop in local COVID-19 cases is the determining factor in the decision to close the drive-thru.
“We are thankful we were able to offer our community drive-thru testing for over 7 months to provide an option to those in need of this service. Now that numbers have dropped significantly over the past month and with other options available to those in our area, our team believes it is safe to discontinue this service,” Ungrund says.

Cody residents are no longer “stampeding” to the Rodeo Grounds for COVID tests, so Cody Regional is cutting an hour of testing that isn’t needed anymore.

For almost a year, Susie Scott hasn t been able to volunteer or see her children without a mask for longer than five minutes. That human touch is, I don t care who you are, everybody needs that, said Scott.
Scott, a resident of Albany County, is over 70 and has an underlying health problem that puts her at high risk for serious illness if she were to contract COVID-19. Since December, when it was announced vaccines were going to be made available, she has eagerly been waiting for her turn. We re obviously almost a month beyond the first of the year. And I ve essentially had reached out on several fronts to try to find out the status in Albany County, said Scott. And got a variety of reasons and situations explained to me as to why it was not available here.
