PARK CO. Mont. - Search and rescue helped eight snowmobilers who found themselves stuck near the Granite Lake area.
The Park County Sheriffâs Office Dispatch Center received a report Wednesday, Feb. 24 around 11:00 pm of eight snowmobilers from Minnesota and Wisconsin that left the Cooke City area that morning heading into the Beartooth Mountains and had not returned.
Acquaintances of the snowmobilers received a text message from one of them earlier in the day indicating they were in the Maryott Lake area of the Beartooth Wilderness.
Due to not knowing the exact location and how late it was in the day, crews decided not to deploy until daylight.
Park County Search and Rescue officials say eight snowmobilers were rescued after illegally riding into the Beartooth Wilderness this week.
According to a news release, the sheriff s office received a report that eight snowmobilers from Wisconsin and Minnesota left Cooke City on Wednesday heading into the Beartooth Mountains.

They did not return.
At daylight the next day, crews headed toward the Maryott Lake area. A search and rescue spotter in an airplane above noted multiple snowmobile tracks on the surface of Granite Lake.

On Thursday, February 18, 2021 at 8:00 p.m., the Park County Sheriffâs Dispatch received a report of two overdue snowmobilers in the Beartooth Mountains east of the Top of the World Store.
Trevor Wayne Deal, age 22 of Bridger, Montana and Maison Deacon Ostwald, age 21 of Laurel, Montana began snowmobiling at 8:00 a.m. that morning and had contacted a friend at 5:00 p.m. to say that one of their sleds had become disabled but they were trying to get back to the highway on their own. No location was given.
Park County Search and Rescue (PCSAR) was activated and deployed to the area on snowmobiles. They were assisted by volunteer members of the Cody Country Snowmobile Association (CCSA) and volunteers from Snow Search.
