Alberta may soon charge fees for random camping on provincial public lands in the Eastern Slopes of the Rocky Mountains, including Willmore Wilderness Park north of Jasper.
On April 12, Environment and Parks Minister Jason Nixon tabled Bill 64 to allow the government to charge fees for recreation activities on public lands.
“Alberta’s Crown lands are the foundation of our province’s rich, natural heritage and are used for recreation, conservation and economic development,” Nixon said in a release.

LITTLE RED RIVER, Alta. – Some trappers and elders from Alberta’s Little Red River Cree Nation are asking the province to protect a dwindling Wabasca Wood Buffalo bison herd.
In a letter to Environment Minister Jason Nixon, they ask for immediate action to end unregulated hunting by legally protecting the herd.

Alberta Environment and Parks estimates the total number of grizzlies in the province is between 856 and 973. In 2010, when grizzlies were listed as a threatened species in Alberta, the provincial population estimate was been 700 and 800 bears.
