Submission Deadline - Rising Stars of Entomology Student Award Symposium | Entomological Society of America

Tuesday, June 1, 2021 - 00-Tuesday, June 1, 2021 - 23 Awards will be granted to five master’s students and five doctoral students from each ESA Section (two from P-IE) to showcase their research in the Rising Stars of Entomology Award Symposium (RSEAS) at the ESA Annual Meeting. This award is intended for graduate students who are near the end of their programs. Students will have the opportunity to expand upon their research beyond the restrictive 10-minutes of the student competitions and gain valuable experience for future career presentations. In addition to giving a featured 30-minute presentation, students will be awarded free registration to the annual meeting and free membership to the Entomological Society of America for the following year.

Michael Engel to deliver Inaugural Distinguished Professor Lecture

Fri, 04/23/2021 LAWRENCE A University of Kansas expert on the evolutionary history and diversity of insects will present his distinguished professor Inaugural Lecture, “400 Million Years on Six Legs: Evolution of the Insects,” on Thursday, April 29.  Michael Engel is a University Distinguished Professor of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology and senior curator in the KU Biodiversity Institute, a rank he has held since 2018. He is also a courtesy professor in the Department of Geology and the Museum Studies Program. The lecture will begin at 4 p.m. and be recorded for those unable to attend the virtual event and posted to the Faculty Development website. Individuals can register to attend the virtual Zoom webinar.
