Al Otro Lado is a binational legal services organization serving refugees and deportees in Tijuana, Mexico and Los Angeles, California. Al Otro Lado runs several programs, including the Border Rights Project working with asylum seekers in Tijuana, Mexico and asylum seekers detained at the Otay Mesa Detention Center, the Litigation Program which engages in impact litigation on behalf of asylum seekers whose rights have been violated by US immigration authorities and corporate subcontractors, and the Family Reunification Program, which has been successful in reuniting the most deported parents with their children in the United States who were separated under the Zero Tolerance Policy and its preceding pilot program.
Migrant Boy Found Wandering Alone Was Deported and Kidnapped
A young boy whose video was shared widely online was kidnapped and separated from his mother when his family couldn t pay for her release.
Wilton Obregon and his mother Meylin, Nicaragua natives, crossed the border to Texas last month to seek asylum. But despite the Biden administration’s insistence that a public health order allowing rapid expulsions wouldn’t apply to children, the 10-year-old and his mother were dismissed to Mexico. Wilton’s brother Misael says they were kidnapped hours after the expulsion. Misael got a call from the kidnappers demanding $10,000 for his mother and brother. Since Misael was only able to come up with $5,000, they released his brother and kept his mother. Wilton was abandoned across the border by the smugglers, and wandered through farmland in South Texas looking for help. He eventually ran into a Border Patrol agent, who recorded the encounter. Honorable Mr. Justice Javed Iqbal, Chairman NAB said that corruption is a method and a technique adopted just to bypass the rule of law and engulf the whole system into socio economic turmoil. Furthermore, corruption, being the root cause of almost all ills, gives birth to multifarious problems including nepotism, favoritism and negating meritocracy, transparency and accountability. He said that NAB’s effective Awareness and Prevention Strategy has started yielding excellent results which was appreciated by the World Economic Forum in order to aware people about the ill effects of corruption.
The Chairman NAB said that due to the initiatives taken by the present management of NAB, eradication of corruption has become the voice of the whole nation.
