Secretary General of the confederation, Sahir Edoo, in a condolence letter to the President, Badminton Federation of Nigeria, Franas Orbih, expressed sadness “over the sudden and terrible demise of Bello Oyebanji, loved by all within the para-badminton community and elsewhere.”
“Bello was a humble and examplary champion, who brilliantly represented the continent whenever he had the chance whether on or off court,” the letter stated.
“He was also part of the BWF para badminton and Para Badminton Athletes Commission and was known for his active engagement to promote para badminton in Africa.

The president of Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN), Francis Orbih has revealed that the federation intends to send athletes for competitions in four countries ahead of qualification for the Tokyo Olympics.
In a chat at the sidelines in the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, Orbih said with the conclusion of the Festival, the players will proceed to Peru, Singapore, Malaysia and Portugal for competition.
He further stated that the federation is using the Festival to test run as they prepare to seek qualification for the Tokyo Olympics Games.
“This is a good opportunity for us to test run, look at the protocols and look at the key things to put in place to ensure that our players and officials are kept safe.

Abuja, Jan. 8, 2021 The Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has approved Para-Badminton to be featured at the forthcoming National Sports Festival scheduled for Edo State, later this month.
The National Coordinator of Nigeria Para-Badminton, Sam Ekeoma, who disclosed this on Friday, in a telephone interview with newsmen said the approval was for it to feature as a demonstration sport at the festival.
Ekeoma said efforts were underway to ensure states embraced the sport, leading to the introduction of a national league.
“The Ministry of Sports has approved that para-badminton will be a demonstration sport at the National Sports Festival, in Edo State, and once the game is demonstrated at the National Sports Festival, other things will follow.
