SAN ANTONIO – When Administrative Judge Ron Rangel reached out to members of the criminal justice system in San Antonio for help to address the 66% drop in the increase of cases awaiting trial as a result of a backlog created by a moratorium on jury service, it didn’t take long for the sheriff to respond.
”We’re going to make sure that the jail is not the reason for that backlog”, Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said Thursday.
He said he is making additional space available in order so that more virtual hearings can be conducted at the jail.

BALCONES HEIGHTS, Texas – The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office late Wednesday night released pictures of two men they believe were involved in the shooting of a Balcones Heights police officer.
One of the suspects is believed to be the driver of a Ford pickup. He is a 30-year-old man. He is 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighs 150 pounds. He has short black hair and brown eyes.
The other suspect is believed to have opened fire on Sgt. Joey Sepulveda and Officer Edgard Ortiz, who were investigating some suspicious people who may have been burglarizing vehicles in the parking lot of the Sol Apartments in the 6900 block of Interstate 10 around 1:30 p.m., Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said.

The first suspect, who BCSO identified as Sijifredo Montemayor, was said to be driving the vehicle involved in the incident. He is 30-years-old, 5 10 and weighs 150 pounds. He has short black hair and brown eyes.

BALCONES HEIGHTS, Texas – The city of Balcones Heights is holding out hope that one of their police officers will pull through after he was shot several times Wednesday afternoon answering an auto burglary call.
Sgt. Joey Sepulveda and Officer Edgard Ortiz were responding to an auto burglary call at the SOL Apartments parking lot in the 6900 block of Interstate 10 around 1:30 p.m., when something prompted Sepulveda to reach for his weapon, Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said.
