A day after quitting as MLA, Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday resigned from the primary membership of the Trinamool Congress, further fuelling speculation that he might switch over to the BJP in the coming days.
After submitting his resignation, Adhikari went to the residence of Sunil Mondol, Trinamool MP from Barddhaman Purba constituency. Among party leaders, who are also seen as being upset with the Trinamool leadership, present there were Col Diptangshu Chowdhury, chairman of South Bengal State Transport Corporation; Jitendra Tiwari, former mayor and current administrator and TMC president of Paschim Burdwan unit; and Nityananda Chattopadhyay, councillor of Guskara municipality.
Chattopadhyay told the media, “I faced problems in the party; I wrote to the higher-ups, but there were no solutions. We are old-timers and have been loyal to the party. But now we have no other way than to join BJP.”

Kolkata: Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Suvendu Adhikari submitted his resignation as MLA to the West Bengal Legislative Assembly on Wednesday. This comes amidst speculations of the rebel TMC leader joining BJP on December 19th in Delhi while Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to be visiting Kolkata.
Soon after tendering his resignation as the MLA, Suvendu Adhikar wrote to West Bengal Governor seeking his intervention on any potential mischief directed towards him out of political vendetta.
The WB Governor took to his official account on Twitter to post the letter that Adhikari had directed towards him.
