Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa’s inspection of a few roads developed by Bengaluru Smart City Ltd. (BSCL) on Saturday did little to convince residents and motorists that projects will be completed any time soon. Activists and residents pointed out that he only inspected roads where work had been completed while many thoroughfares in the Central Business District remain dug up, with work progressing at a snail’s pace.

Dedicated track on Racecourse Road and Raj Bhavan Road almost ready
Cycling on the busy Racecourse Road and Raj Bhavan Road in the central business district (CBD) will now be a breeze. While the cycle lane on the footpath between R.C. College and turf club is ready, painting work on the track on the Raj Bhavan Road is being taken up.
Both these roads are part of the 5-km stretch from Minsk Square, Raj Bhavan Road, to Basaveshwara Circlethat is being developed by the Bengaluru Smart City Ltd. (BSCL). The dedicated footpath with cycle track and tactile pavement track was to have been completed in November last year.

Road development work taken up on Raj Bhavan Road, Race Course Road, Nehru Planetarium Road and Hayes Road by the Bengaluru Smart City Ltd. will be completed by end of the month; and work on 10 other roads will be completed in January 2021, said Gaurav Gupta, administrator, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).
On Thursday, Mr. Gupta, accompanied by Rajendra Cholan, BSCL managing director, and other officials inspected Dickenson Road, Kamraj Road, Halasoor Road, Commercial Street, Raj Bhavan Road and Nehru Planetarium Road.
He directed officials to issue notices and levy penalties on contractors if there is any delay in completing the work. He said that 36 roads in the Central Business District are being developed as per TenderSURE norms by BSCL. These works should be completed as per deadlines to ensure citizens are not inconvenienced.
