The helpline was launched mid-April with 30 lines with the assistance of Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company (Bescom). According to BBMP officials, the helpline was receiving nearly 3,000 calls from citizens across the city every day. “The helpline could just not take the load of calls. The number of lines was first increased to 60, but even that was insufficient. Citizens complained that the helpline was constantly busy and that they couldn’t get through. The number of lines was then increased to 400,” an official said.

In all, there will be 30 lines in the helpline,” said BBMP Chief Commissioner Gaurav Gupta. The helpline is in addition to the existing Aptamitra helpline (14410), ambulance facility (108) and the eight zonal war rooms.

The circular was issued by Bengaluru civic body s Chief Commissioner Gaurav Gupta as complaints over delays in cremations and lengthening queues beamed across news channels. According to this circular, the crematoriums at Medi Agrahara in Yelahanka, Kudlu near Bommanahalli, Kengeri (RR Nagar-Yeshwantpur Road), Panathuru in Mahadevpura, Sumanhalli in Kengeri, Peenya in Dasarahalli, and Banashanakri in south divisions will function from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
