Bengaluru airport runway visibility improved (Representational Image)
The Bengaluru International Airport installed the category-3B (CAT-3B) instrument landing system (ILS) on its new runway to improve visibility for aircraft landing and take-off in inclement weather and foggy conditions, said its operator on Thursday. The new runway has been upgraded with CAT-3B ILS to enable any aircraft landing at 50-metre visual range and take-off at 125-metre visibility, said the operator (Bangalore International Airport Ltd) in a statement here.
A CAT-3B helps pilots with a precision approach and landing when the runway visibility is at a distance less than 50 feet (15 metre) and take-off at a visual range less than 200 metres.

Bengaluru, Dec 31: The second runway of Kempegowda international airport here has been upgraded to facilitate smooth operation of flights even during low visibility.
Inclement weather and foggy conditions will now have minimal impact on the movement of aircraft, the Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL), which operates the airport said in a statement.
Aiding smooth operations during low visibility are the newly-installed advanced Instrument Landing System (ILS), Airfield Ground Lights (AGL), meteorological equipment such as Transmissometre, Automatic Weather Observatory Station (AWOS), Surface Movement Radar (SMR) and other navigational aids, it added.

airports are in a state of confusion
Passengers flying into some of the country s biggest airports on Wednesday complained of long waits and confusion as authorities sought to impose rules to try to stop the spread of a new more transmissible variant of the coronavirus.
Like many countries, India has suspended flights from
Britain, where cases have soared because of the variant.
People arriving from Britain before the ban came into force on Wednesday were being tested, including
Kamini Saraswat whose plane landed in New Delhi just before midnight.
