The Supreme Court reiterated that a High Court while exercising jurisdiction under Article 226 and 227 should be extremely circumspect in interfering with orders passed under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act.
Such interference can be made only in cases of exceptional rarity or cases which are stated to be patently lacking in inherent jurisdiction, the bench comprising Justices RF Nariman and BR Gavai observed.
In this case, an Arbitral Award was made in favour of the appellant. A sum of Rs. 122.76 Crores amounting to Rs. 56.23 Crores principal and Rs. 66.53 Crores on various heads was ordered to be paid. In Section 34 petition filed by the respondent, the execution of the said Award was stayed on deposit of 60% of the figure of Rs. 122.76 Crores and security being given for the balance. Bengaluru, April 8 : The commuters across Karnataka continued to face hardships as the call for indefinite strike given by the Karnataka State Road Transport Employees League (KSRTEL) entered the second day on Thursday.
With the majority of the employees from all the four state-run transport corporations not attending their duty, buses continued to remain mostly off roads across the state, affecting the daily commuters.

Ajay Seth was appointed the new Economic Affairs Secretary
IAS officer Ajay Seth, who had been serving as Managing Director of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL), was on Tuesday appointed the new Economic Affairs Secretary. The appointment at the Centre came on the day BMRCL was carrying out a trial run on the eagerly-awaited extension of the Purple Line.

Finance Ministry, Economic Affairs, Secretary Tarun Bajaj is now appointed as the revenue secretary. After the superannuation of Ajay Bhushan Pandey in February this year, Bajaj was given the additional charge of revenue secretary.
Replacing Bajaj as the secretary to the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) is the managing director of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation, Ajai Seth. He has been serving in the state administration of Karnataka since 2008. He is a 1987 batch Karnataka-cadre IAS officer with a four-year stint as an advisor in Asian Development Bank.
