(File) Mumbai: The Shiv Sena today sought a high-level probe into the barge tragedy off the Mumbai coast during cyclone Tauktae and demanded the resignation of Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and the ONGC chairman. As many as 37 personnel on board a barge have died, while 38 are still missing after the vessel, working on an ONGC project, sank in the Arabian Sea. The accommodation barge P305 went adrift in the cyclone fury before sinking on Monday. The Shiv Sena, which heads the government in Maharashtra, said the death of workers on the ONGC barge was a man-made tragedy and the guilty must be punished severely.

19 May 2021 13:15 GMT Updated  19 May 2021 13:15 GMT in  London Twenty-two offshore workers are confirmed dead as the search and rescue operation continues after a barge sank when Cyclone Tauktae hit Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC)’s Mumbai High fields offshore western India. The Indian Navy and coast guard mounted the operation after the cyclone struck on Monday, although hopes are fading for the 51 personnel still missing from contractor Afcons’ Papaa 305 barge. Rescue efforts have been supported by ONGC as well as joint venture partners Afcons and Halani-Tes-Nauvata, which were revamping unmanned platforms at Mumbai High when the storm hit. The navy said that 188 of the 261 people on board the barge had been rescued by the middle of this week.

Indian Oil, Israel s Phinergy to manufacture special batteries in India

Indian Oil and Israel’s Phinergy announced a joint venture for commercialising aluminium-air (Al-Air) battery technology on Wednesday. The joint venture, IOC Phinergy (IOP), will be manufacturing Al-Air systems in India and recycle the used aluminium. Phinergy is a startup specializing in hybrid lithium-ion and aluminium-air/zinc-air battery systems. The new Indo-Israeli JV also intends to develop fuel cells and indigenous hydrogen storage solutions for promoting green mobility, a statement from Indian Oil said. A letter of intent (LOI) for using this technology was signed between IOP and Maruti Suzuki India. Another LOI for the same was signed between IOP and Ashok Leyland. The JV aims to enhance domestic energy supply based on domestically available aluminium.
